14 Aug 2026 08:25Wouldn't still be pushing the load at an angle? (Wanting to bend the shaft in the middle as the swinger goes thru it's stroke)Just a suggestion but if you off-set both lower shock mounts by half of your discrepancy (one inwards and one outwards) you could also buy shocks with spherical bearings (or replace the bushes in the shocks you have with bearings) you could then angle the shocks inwards at the top and keep the stock width

An inboard offset lower mount would be the easiest way to go to to keep the distance to the wheel symmetrical with the other side and negate the need to alter the stock frame mounts which you wanted to avoid.
The XJR1300 arms i favour have factory outboard offset lower mounts which have roughly the same amount of overhang .
I would make the mount in one piece though as opposed the two piece design you currently have.

Cut those tabs off and weld something like this on where you want it.

I think a pair of billet mounts as per my diagram would get it done (the angle on the shocks is exaggerated to show the concept and I don’t believe would cause any twisting

Sorry I haven't been replying because it's been in the mid to upper 90's and 80% humidity here and my shop has become an air fryer!! it's supposedly going to be cooler in the coming days. More later.

I figured out my shock problem. I had my brother-in-law machine some new lugs for the top mount. I cut off the original lugs, drilled pilot holes, then stepped up to the 13mm ID of the original. The 13 mm stud goes through the original frame gusset, so now I will weld it on both ends. The right one I replaced because I wanted the same fastener setup on both sides. It didn't need spacing out as the left one. Now I'll some washers and bolt to finish off.

Re: Woodhead's '77 KZ1000A resto mod attempt.
While I was waiting on the machined parts I had to tackle my shift lever problem. With the shift arm I have and the shift lever I was going to use, the shift pattern would have been upside down. If I rotated the shift arm pointing down as the lever for a normal shift pattern, the arm and linkage would hit the side stand mount. So, I decided to fab my own shift lever so the arm would be pointing up. While I was at it I wanted the brake pedal to match so I fabbed one of those as well. So now the shift pattern is 1 down-4 up like the side cover shows.
