I figured that if there's a stumble off idle that could be fixed (in the case of pods running lean) by upsizing the pilot jets and then fine tuning it with the fuel mixture screws? Does the air corrector just make this easier or does it accomplish something that wouldn't be otherwise possible?

There are no air correction jets for Keihin carbs. Gotta do it the old-fashioned way, or install an airbox (preferred)

17 Sep 2026 15:11 - 17 Sep 2026 15:162nd photo of the topic. are those the filters you installed? if so. are they over-saturated in oil?.... I figure that I already spent the $250 on nice pods and new jets, so I might as well take a crack at it before I give up and return to stock.

Yeah those are the filters. They shouldn’t be over oiled, the instructions were to saturate them with filter oil and then squeeze as much of the excess out as possible. I think that pic was right after I re oiled them since I had the carbs off anyways so they are normally even drier.

Update:
I managed to get the packing out of my exhaust and decided that I might as well use it until my new exhaust comes, since I only have a few more weeks of good riding weather. Anyways, I was able to take it out for a slightly longer ride and it seems a lot better now. Pulls all the way to redline without any hiccups and feels a lot more powerful pulling away from a stop (I can let the clutch out a lot faster without lugging). I also calculated my fuel economy and I’m getting 40 mpg now which I think is in the acceptable range for a 750 (someone correct me if I’m wrong though). I’m still planning on installing the new muffler when it comes, but it seems solid in the meantime.
if anyone is interested I’ll do another update again in a couple of weeks when the new muffler arrives and I install it/dial everything in!

Re: 1980 kz750 ltd jetting/power issues are sapping my will to live
21 Sep 2026 08:04 - 21 Sep 2026 08:0740mpg sounds about right. my 650csr gets 42-45mpg around town. depending upon whether it's ridden easy or agressive. 52-55mpg on the highway. but almost always 52. the 55 number is when I'm cruising at a steady speed with no hills..... I also calculated my fuel economy and I’m getting 40 mpg now which I think is in the acceptable range for a 750 (someone correct me if I’m wrong though)...

40mpg sounds about right. If you get the carbs nicely tuned you could probably easily do 50mpg while cruising. Ive been getting 45mpg on my 1000 while cruising at 65mph. I also have a smaller rear sprocket though.

It was probably 75/25 cruising/city miles, and I would say pretty spirited miles for sure 😅
I basically have a stock sprocket ratio, except that I did a 530 conversion so I’m running 14t front 40t rear sprockets, so technically my cruising rpm’s are a smidge higher than they would otherwise be. But like you said, I’m going that I’ll get another 5-10 miles per gallon once everything is running perfectly 😁

Typically, when converting to 530, it's best to maintain the stock front sprocket diameter. Stock is 13T and to match that in 530 you need a 16T sprocket. Running too small a sprocket can lead to the chain rubbing the swingarm, and it also robs power from the small diameter.

Oh that’s totally my bad, I meant to say 16 tooth front sprocket 😬
The stock final drive ratio is 2.46 and my current setup is 2.5 I think. Not sure why I said 14 front but yeah it’s 16. I believe I actually got those numbers from another post on here from someone who did the same thing.
